What a week!

What a busy week the Year 1 students have had!

They threw themselves into Book Week and loved exploring the CLIC and making Book Week t-shirts. On Friday they participated in a writing workshop with our Writer in Residence Beth Cregan. The children developed three different stories with Beth and hopefully each child will continue to develop and complete at least one of those stories in the next few weeks. If you have a chance please check out the Book Week Blog at http://cornishbookweek.blogspot.com.au/2013/08/book-week-celebrations.html, there is even a photo of Year 1 in front of the huge spaceship that is (or was!) the CLIC.

We had a fantastic excursion to the city on Thursday. The students explored the Bugs Alive exhibit in readiness for the start of next week's new unit on Invertebrates. They also enjoyed looking at the underwater exhibit - in particular the giant squid and the bioluminescent creatures as well as the fluorescent rocks in the earth exhibit. We then journeyed to the National Gallery of Victoria to view the Monet exhibition. The children were excellent ambassadors for the school as they wandered quietly around the exhibit - many gallery patrons commented on both the behaviour of the children and their excellent presentation. A big thank you to my sensational parent helpers; Orlanda, Sharon and Jodie for their superb assistance!

The children have also been extremely busy finishing various light projects that we have been working on. They finalised their Light vs Dark experiment this week and they have almost finished their Light information posters.

As last week was a little busy, I will continue their favourite book theme for Show and Share this week.
