Carnival 2013
What a fantastic day the Carnival was on Saturday. I'm sure your family, like mine had a wonderful day. I particularly enjoyed being dunked and judging by the big smiles on your children's faces they enjoyed seeing me dunked too! Well done to everyone for all of your hard work and dedication - without your support the day would not have been such a success!
The class have been busy working on their Summative Assessment Task and they have been very creative constructing their unsafe scenario. They will be adding their finishing touches this week and by next week you will be able to view their finished products on the bench outside the classroom.
Recently we have been focusing on the concept of "knowledge". The children are going to share something during their Show and Share time over the next two weeks that they are knowledgeable about. This could be a particular hobby, animal, sport or any subject that they have an interest in.
The children are now changing their own take home reader every morning and recording it in their record book by themselves. I know that it doesn't look as tidy as when you write it in but this is just another activity that encourages their independence - which is one of the PYP attitudes that we have been exploring over the past few weeks.
I have been creating individual word lists for each of the students. Learning these words should form part of the children's nightly reading routine. They need to be able to automatically read these words and once they can, I will test them and then issue them with a new list. Currently they only need to be able to read them, later in the year they will need to be able to spell them too.
Please ensure that you have all of the requested apps loaded onto your child's iPad. As you may be aware the Puffin Free App now needs to be replaced with the paid Puffin App. We use this app to access IXL Maths, Sunshine Online and other websites that require Flash. I have added an App Page with links to the blog so that you can check that you have both free and paid apps.
